OCTOBER Reflection from Father Ray

Have you ever gotten up in the morning, looked in the mirror and said “Oh my God!” Well you might not be too far from the truth. Somewhere in there dwells God. It might be hard to believe but it’s true. Believe it. God is there, in you. We are not always aware of His Presence within us but He is there.
I am sitting facing the backyard of the rectory where we planted the garden for the Community Food Bank. There is nothing there right now. Everything has been cleaned up for the Winter. There was nothing in May when we planted the seeds in our garden to grow some beautiful vegetables. Every year I look at those tiny seeds that we put in the ground and think what can come from these tiny little things. Two or three months later I am looking at eight foot tall tomato plants, squash plants reaching out everywhere, string beans weighing heavy on the bushes, gorgeous egg plant, cucumbers spreading every which way. How miraculous that so much can come from so little.
If God can perform this miracle with a little seed planted in dirt, how much more can He bring forth great things from His Presence in our hearts! The earth simply receives the little seed and let’s God do the rest. That is all we are asked to do, to be receptive of God’s seed and let it grow in us. God will provide the growth and the results. All we are asked to do is to let it grow. And not only will we benefit but so will the lives of all those we meet and with whom we work and enjoy life. May God’s seed of life planted within us at our Baptism continue to grow and bear much fruit.
What gift have you received in life that you could cultivate a little more?
Are there children in your life that you could help to develop their gifts?
